Harpagophytum, also called grapple plant, wood spider, and most commonly devil’s claw, is a genus of plants in the sesame family. The plant is native to southern Africa and gets its name from its hook-shaped fruit. Devils claw can be used to combat degenerative disease, Alzheimer’s, and Parkinson’s disease. The herb is used to treat depression, eating disorders, and can be beneficial to stroke victims. Devils claw has anti-inflammatory properties and can help with pain management, especially back pain.
