Zanthoxylum americanum, also called prickly ash, is an aromatic tree native to central and eastern US and Canada. and is in the citrus family, Rutaceae. The herb is used as a warming circulatory stimulant that has the ability to promote sweating. Native Americans chewed the bark and berries of this tree to alleviate toothache and rheumatism. The plant is also known for its anti-fungal properties and its ability to heal digestive problems and leg ulcers.
