Salvia officinalis, also called garden sage, common sage, or culinary sage, is a perennial, evergreen subshrub in the mint family Lamiaceae and native to the Mediterranean region. Sage is used in treating a variety of ailments including poor digestion, irregular periods, sore throat, and high cholesterol. Sage’s high iron content makes it excellent for blood health and can help the body heal anemia. The herb is also a mental stimulant that can improve memory and hormone balancer.
