Foeniculum vulgare
Fennel Seed
Foeniculum vulgare, commonly known as fennel is a flowering plant species in the carrot family. It is indigenous to the shores of the Mediterranean but has become widely naturalized in many parts of the world, especially on dry soils near the sea-coast and on riverbanks. Fennel is known for its anti-inflammatory properties and its weight loss properties. Being rich in fiber, Fennel helps the body stay fuller for longer periods preventing cravings that cause overeating. In women, fennel can promote breast milk, healthy menstruation, and treat PMS.
