Chondrus crispus, commonly called carrageen, Irish moss, and seamoss, is a species of algae in the family gigartinaceae. Irish moss can be found on the Atlantic coasts growing just below the waterline, attached to rocks and stones. Irish moss is notable for its anti-inflammatory and mucus removing properties. It contains significant amounts of iodine making it very useful for thyroid function and hormone balance.
