Mentha × piperita, also known as mentha balsamea wild and peppermint, is a hybrid mint, a cross between watermint and spearmint. The origin of peppermint is a mystery but was found in Egyptian pyramids dating from around 1000 BCE. Peppermint is valued for its digestive properties. It can be used to treat constipation, gas, and soothes the lining and muscles of the colon. Peppermint is also used to treat headache and can help enhance focus.
