Smilax ornata, also known as sarsaparilla, Honduran sarsaparilla, and Jamaican sarsaparilla, is a perennial trailing vine in the family Smilacaceae and is native to Mexico, South America, the Caribbean Islands, and Central America. Sarsaparilla contains anti-bacterial and anti-inflammatory properties. It is high in iron making it great for blood health and will also act as a blood cleanser. The herb’s estrogenic action makes it valuable in premenstrual problems and menopausal conditions.
