Hydrastis canadensis, also called orangeroot, yellow puccoon, and goldenseal, is a perennial herb in the buttercup family Ranunculaceae. The plant is native to southeastern Canada and the eastern United States and can be distinguished by its thick, yellow knotted rootstock. The Native Americans prized Goldenseal as a cure-all and used it for a wide variety of ailments including wounds, sores, stomach issues, and liver problems.
